My LA has speeds recorded (by me) varying between 1Gbps and 9Gbps at various times of the day. U/L speeds are not the main issue its the fact that we are using server structure machines with minimum physical memory inside, and hardware that is embarrassingly old. Even though the machines were refreshed 2 years ago, they are about 5 years old. The hardware just isnt suitable for Web 2.0 and its needs.

Just dont get me started on websense - that drives me insane with rage.

I had a site blocked last week which was incorrectly categorised and refused to be un-blocked because the 'expert' at HQ had not heard of the platform i wanted to use. As an ICT expert for a LA, I would say that should have been grounds for asking...

"What the hell do we employ you for if you cant keep your knowledge up to date".

I like this angle - and it is encouraging to see that there is a strategy being talked about, even if it is 'weak'. I do agree about broadband speeds. It's incredibly frustrating to find that school network speeds will ruin an imaginative and innovative lesson (It's really surprising how bad speeds can be). Glad there is a force fighting for this to be improved :) Thanks Do-be!

Liz is gone? Oh my goodness. Perhaps now they'll bring in someone who actually cleans! We must prepare for war!

Since Liz's reign we have lived peacefully and unharmed in the Do Be offices. In the carpets she never hoovered and on the shelfs she never dusted. Even on the hoover itself. We would gather on the shelf by the dead orchid to watch her gossip with the team. Breaking the flurry of their busy day with a tale of those unfortunates in the other offices before she waddled off to spread the news of the Do Be team to those travel boys next door.

We will miss her and the years of peace we have enjoyed. And I hope she misses us - technically she missed us every day with the duster!

Goodbye Lazy Liz.
