Creating A Whole-School Wellbeing Culture

A priority for us all is understanding how we as educators can respond to the adverse impact of these challenging and uncertain times on mental health. Good mental health for staff, children and young people begins with awareness raising and the development of an open, inclusive culture where individuals feel comfortable in talking about their wellbeing and supported in nurturing healthy self-care practice. The creation of a caring and compassionate Wellbeing Culture enables everyone to thrive in our new normal school communities.

Teachers and educators are uniquely placed to be positive role models by demonstrating the life-enhancing skills pupils need to help time-limit and mitigate anxiety and stress caused by the challenges of modern life and events.

I've come to a frightening conclusion that I'm the decisive element in the classroom. It's my personal approach that creates the climate. It's my daily mood that makes the weather. ...it is my response that decides whether a crisis will be escalated or de-escalated.

Head Teacher, Millbrook Primary, Newport, Wales

“ I can’t recommend Do-BeMindful enough. I am less reactive in situations, more kind to myself and I now know the importance of being fully present in the moment. ”

Member of support staff, Emneth Nursery, Norfolk, England

“ A life changing experience, Transformative for education. ”

Teacher, Neyland Primary School

“ I am now more aware of my ability to take a little time out of the fuss and mess of the day and simply be present in my own body. This has helped my sleeping and it has, at times, helped me to develop a greater sense of perspective in stressful moments. ”

Teacher, Rothesay Academy

“ Eye-opening! Gave me a new perspective on how I see and deal with things. Being grateful to be alive and for all the things and people around me. Connecting with myself again and being present. Life’s not sunshine and rainbows but owning that and appreciating what you have will definitely benefit you and others. Be kind, Be patient, Be generous. ”

Teacher, St Clements Church of England Primary School, Manchester
